BUYING SMARTER ·
The five-minute deal check
A good offer holds up after you read the details. Here is what to check before you click through.
Check shopping scam warning signs before comparing discounts
Use the free Deal Safety Check at https://cybermondaysale.site/is-this-deal-real.html to review warning signs without submitting a store URL, passwords, card details or personal information. The tool does not scan a domain or determine whether a retailer is legitimate. Follow FTC recommendations to research a seller independently, compare exact items, examine refund and delivery policies and avoid sellers demanding hard-to-reverse payment methods. Start with the exact item
Write down the model number, size, shade or color, condition and bundle contents. Two listings with the same headline name can still describe different products. If you cannot establish a match, label them as alternatives rather than treating the cheaper one as a discount on the same thing.
Compare the amount you will actually pay
Add the item price, shipping, estimated tax and any required membership cost. Subtract only a coupon you can actually use. Unknown shipping or tax is an unanswered question, not a zero. Our comparison tool shows a known subtotal when either amount is missing.
Read the restrictions before counting the saving
Check exclusions, eligible sizes and colors, order minimums, membership rules and whether a code can be combined with another promotion. A discount that requires an extra purchase may make your basket more expensive.
Consider the cost of getting it wrong
Check the seller and the return information for your specific offer. Look for return shipping, restocking charges, final-sale language and bundle-return requirements. Verify arrival estimates if a gift has a deadline.
Decide against your own list
Ask whether you wanted the item before seeing the promotion. Then compare the full cost with the target you chose. Keeping your current item, buying less or waiting can all be good outcomes. A purchase does not need to happen for the research to be useful.
For a gift with purchase, double-check what is shipped versus picked up
Before counting an online gift as free, check that you added the gift itself, your qualifying merchandise reaches the minimum before taxes and nonqualifying charges, your order uses an eligible shipping method, and any loyalty-tier restriction is met. For example, Ulta's October 16 offers included an 11-piece textured-hair gift with $70 qualifying shipped merchandise and a Diamond-only 32-piece bag with $180 qualifying shipped merchandise. In both cases pickup and same-day delivery were excluded. If your checkout still shows a gift charge, do not assume it will automatically be refunded.
